Our Journey

The Rodillian Multi Academy Trust is the sole shareholder in the company known as Southway at the Rodillian Academy Limited, which operates the Southway independent school, providing alternative provision education for students in KS3 and KS4, who may otherwise have been excluded from mainstream schools.

The provision was initially based in Middleton, as part of the exclusion trial in 2010 to provide short-term placements to support a select group of schools in South Leeds through the Leeds South AIP. Over the years, the provision has developed and grown to accommodate more and more students, including students from other local authorities and those with additional SEN(D) needs that require support with an EHCP.

In June 2014 Southway relocated to Belle Isle, where we remain to this day. This setting is just ten minutes away from the Rodillian Academy. We are situated in a ‘My Space’ building equipped with six classrooms as well as sports facilities, recording studio and media suite.

Southway arranges alternative provision for Trust academies, a range of schools from across Leeds through the South and East Area Inclusion Partnership and through the Leeds SEMH panel. Southway has also provided alternative provision for neighbouring authorities.

In March 2019 Southway registered as an Independent School and has been inspected under the Independent Schools Standards Inspection Framework.
