The School Day

Students need to arrive at school for 9am where they are met by senior staff at the gate as part of their welcome. Once students arrive, they are not allowed offsite and must make their way to reception.

Our main timetable runs as follows:

9.15 am - 10.00 am

Period 2

10.00 am - 10.45 am

Period 3

Period 4

11.30 am - 12.15 pm

Period 5

12.15 pm - 1.00 pm

At 1.00 pm the majority of students are allowed to go home. Online learning is provided for all students through Ed Lounge/ Ed Class in the form of personalised pathways to further support learning.

In an afternoon we run an SEMH twilight provision for students. Many of the students who attend Southway have experienced trauma or need support to rebuild relationships and modify their behaviour. This timetable is centred around core subjects and building relationships with staff and other students. During the twilight provision we also provide targeted intervention for students helping them catch up with individual subjects. SEND staff use this time to complete diagnostic assessments with students as part of our graduated response.

All students who are referred to Southway join our provision as part of the twilight timetable where they complete a series of baseline assessments which provide us with a wealth of data to support them during their time at Southway. This baseline assessment process also allows staff to meet with students and help them build positive relationships before they start.
